The province of Shandong in East China has been promoting "red tourism", or revolutionary-themed tourism to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China this year.

According to the Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, it has selected 100 red tourism routes which cover revolutionary museums, memorial halls, revolutionary sites, patriotic education demonstration bases, and other related tourism sites in the province's 16 cities.

The 100 red tourism routes, which showcase Shandong's rich and diverse natural landscapes as well as profound culture and history, allow tourists to better explore Shandong, said provincial officials.

"Red tourism has been integrated with rural sightseeing, study tours, self-driving tours, healthcare and other themes to offer flexible products to tourists," said an official from the Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism.

The Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism has also published travel suggestions, accommodation recommendations, and other tourism information for tourists.

A series of Party-themed publicity and education activities will also be held across the province, said Shandong officials.
