Zhou Ying is both a deputy to the 14th National People's Congress, the country's top legislature, and a professor at Taishan University, who has been deeply engaged in researching Taishan culture for 40 years.
At the third session of the 14th National People's Congress, he brought forth a proposal to continue to advocate for the inheritance and development of Taishan culture.
Taishan Mountain has historically been one of the significant symbols of Chinese culture.
"Taishan Mountain should be fully incorporated into the symbol system of Chinese civilization. Therefore, I propose to the conference that Taishan Mountain be included as the representative mountain of China, and exhibit the cultural essence and charm of the foremost Chinese sacred mountain to the world through various means," according to Zhou.
"As a promoter of Taishan culture, I have felt the rapid expansion of Taishan Mountain's influence overseas in recent years. Many foreign media outlets have aired programs promoting Taishan Mountain. This is something that brings me great joy and pride," Zhou said.
Zhou also looks forward to more young scholars focusing on Taishan culture and advancing research in this field. During last year's National People's Congress, his proposal to establish "Taishan studies" received a positive response from the Ministry of Education and garnered high attention from relevant departments.
Currently, Taishan University is actively preparing to establish the discipline of "Taishan studies," and Zhou will embark on new work in comprehensive research and discipline development within Taishan studies.
"My role as a delegate of the National People's Congress provides me with a better opportunity to carry on the legacy of Taishan culture. I am committed to telling the story of Taishan Mountain well and promoting its culture," Zhou stated.
