Three dialogues focusing on initiatives related to global development, global security, and global civilization were held in Weifang, Shandong province, on Sept 20 to 21, as a part of the Commemoration of the International Day of Peace 2024.

Representatives from more than 80 countries across Asia, Africa, Latin America, Europe, and the Americas, along with over 100 political organizations, peace groups, and security think tanks, gathered in the city and shared their insights on promoting world peace.

The International Day of Peace is observed annually around the world on Sept 21. Established in 1981 by a unanimous United Nations resolution, the day provides an opportunity for all humanity to commit to building a more peace world despite differences.

The commemoration event was hosted by the Chinese People's Association for Peace and Disarmament and the Shandong Provincial People's Government. It focused on the theme of "Upholding a Shared Future to Build a World of Peaceful Coexistence", offering fresh perspectives on world peace and development. The opening ceremony was held in Jinan, capital of Shandong province, on Sept 19.

Weifang was designated as the world's 308th International City of Peace in 2021 by the International Cities of Peace, a global nonprofit association dedicated to promoting peace worldwide.
