A century ago, in the summer of 1924, Scottish athlete Eric Liddell, known to the Chinese as Li Airui, made history by winning the 400-meter gold medal at the Paris Olympics, setting a new world record.

Although his record has long been surpassed, his legendary story and spirit continue to inspire people in Weifang, Scotland, and around the world. Eric Liddell, who was imprisoned in the Weihsien Internment Camp during World War II, remains a symbol of resilience and faith.

As the world once again gathers to celebrate the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, let us remember the extraordinary life and achievements of Eric Liddell, a true champion both on and off the track.
