The Sino-Japanese Naval War and Underwater Archaeological Warship Wrecks Findings Exhibition opened to the public in Jinan, Shandong province on Aug 4.

This exhibition introduces a groundbreaking curatorial approach by combining revolutionary relics with underwater archaeology. For the first time, over 300 sets of valuable artifacts from shipwrecks from the Sino-Japanese Naval War, the first Sino-Japanese War (1894-95), also known as the Jiawu Sea Battle, are being comprehensively showcased.

By merging underwater archaeological finds with the latest historical research on the Sino-Japanese Naval War, the exhibition uses these artifacts to vividly tell the story of Shandong's revolutionary history and China's broader narrative.

A symposium to reflect on the shipwreck underwater archaeology was held at the same time. The event brought together over 50 experts in underwater archaeology and Sino-Japanese War studies from across the country.

Featuring discussions on topics including shipwreck archaeology, artifact preservation, research on the Sino-Japanese War, and modern shipwreck investigations, the symposium reviewed new insights gained from shipwreck research of the Jiawu Sea Battle and established a new model for modern shipwreck archaeology in China.
