Jinan operated 723 China-Europe freight trains in the first 10 months of this year, a year-on-year growth of 29.8 percent, according to official statistics.

Jinan launched the first China-Europe freight train to Moscow, Russia, in August 2017. In 2018, Shandong issued the "Implementation Opinions on Promoting the Coordinated Development of Eurasian Freight Trains in the Province", which put the development of China-Europe freight trains on the fast track.

Jinan is one of the three designated China-Europe freight train consolidation centers in Shandong.

Jinan currently has 13 operating routes for China-Europe freight trains that form an international multimodal transport logistics system with multiple ports, routes, and destination stations. These routes connect Jinan with 47 cities in 20 countries, including Russia, Belarus, Poland, Germany, Serbia, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

The freight volume of China-Europe freight trains in Jinan had increased from 3,800 metric tons in 2017 to 759,700 tons in 2022. The import and export value had increased from $23 million in 2017 to $852 million in 2022 during the same period.

Jinan has also cooperated with coastal ports such as Yantai Port and Weihai Port to facilitate the transit of goods from Japan and South Korea using China-Europe freight trains.

In addition, Jinan has established a unique "sea-river-rail" intermodal transportation model that leverages the Xiaoqing River to transport goods.
