Shandong province is ramping up efforts to build a collaborative working mechanism, gather various scientific research forces, and actively undertake research and practices related to the comprehensive management and sustainable development of the Yellow River basin.

It is expediting the construction of research institutions in cities along the Yellow River. Efforts will be made to carry out ecological protection and restoration work, restore the ecological and geological environment of previous mining sites, strengthen natural disaster prevention and control, and carry out natural resource and land spatial planning. Research in these areas will be strengthened to provide feasible recommendations for government decision-making, said Shandong officials.

Shandong is also promoting the construction of a green, low-carbon, and high-quality development pilot zone. It is taking advantage of the Shandong Geothermal Industry Technology Innovation Alliance to carry out investigations and evaluations of shallow and medium-deep geothermal resources. It is also carrying out geothermal well and salt-cavern energy storage projects in cities such as Dezhou, Binzhou, Liaocheng, and Tai'an to promote the large-scale and green development and utilization of clean energy.

Furthermore, Shandong is working to strengthen its emergency rescue brand and enhance its ecological protection and restoration brand. It has summarized its successful participating in the ecological restoration of mountains, forests, farmlands, lakes, and wetlands in Mount Tai, Yimeng Mountain, Nansi Lake, and Dongping Lake in a bid to improve its technical level and work capacity.
