A conference on Germany-Shandong industrial cooperation and exchanges was held in Jinan, capital of East China's Shandong province, on Nov 22.

The event, which was held via both online and offline channels, was designed to deepen exchanges and cooperation between the two sides in green and low-carbon transformation and environmental protection.

Agreements for 12 key cooperation projects were signed during the conference, with a total contract value of 1.27 billion yuan ($177.5 million). These projects cover gas waste and sewage treatment, new environmentally friendly materials, green construction and carbon footprint sectors.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Germany.

Chen Jian'an, deputy director of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade said in a video during the conference that China and Germany will strengthen cooperation in green development, explore green transformation of industries and promote a new path of carbon neutrality and sustainable energy development to provide a driving force for the stability and recovery of the world economy in the post-COVID-19 era.

In August, China issued measures to support Shandong in transforming old growth drivers into new ones, and spurring green, low-carbon and high-quality development.

Local officials said that Shandong will continue to promote scientific and technological innovation, green transformation, optimization of the energy and transport structure, and coordinated development of urban and rural land and sea areas to promote high-quality development.
