Rizhao, a coastal city in Shandong province, has made great strides in its all-round development over the past decade, according to municipal officials at a news conference held on Sept 27.

In the past decade, Rizhao's economic development has increased both in quantity and quality. The average annual growth rate of the city's GDP reached 7.8 percent, which has nearly doubled in 10 years. The ratio of the three industries has achieved a historic change from "2:3:1" to "3:2:1".

Rizhao is beefing up efforts to build a sophisticated city, and it has made solid progress in building a new type of urbanization, and promoting rural vitalization.

A total of 276 urban villages and 484 old residential areas were renovated in Rizhao in the 2012-21 period. The urbanization rate of permanent residents reached 62.1 percent, and the living environment in rural areas has been significantly improved.

Rizhao has been working hard to improve the construction of its local infrastructure. The port cargo throughput of Rizhao Port ranked ninth in the world and sixth in China, and historic breakthroughs have been made in the city's transport infrastructure. Airports and high-speed railways have been built from scratch, and the length of highways open to traffic has exceeded 10,000 km in Rizhao.

In Rizhao, the standard of living has greatly increased. The city has maintained spending on residents' well-being at a level higher than 80 percent of the general public budget.
