At the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games on Feb 4, a massive vertical video display called "Ice Fall" provided a breathtaking spectacle.

Its steel structure, which is about 60 meters tall and composed of more than 6,000 parts, was produced and installed by Classic Group from Jining, East China's Shandong province.

The company specializes in the research and development, design and manufacturing of steel structures, as well as on-site installation and construction.

Many types of integrated equipment, including elevators and LED screens, are mounted on the structure, which necessitates extraordinary precision in welding and installation, said Zhang Zheng, head of the project from the Classic Group.

Zhang went on to say that the company went to great lengths to assure the structure's perfection, including using a variety of innovative smart manufacturing tools like welding robots and 3D drilling equipment.

The installation started on Aug 14 and took a mere 37 days to complete.

"It is a great honor to participate in the worldwide sporting event, and we felt extremely proud when our hard work was presented to audiences from around the world," said Zhang.
