The Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Demonstration Park in Zhanhua district, Binzhou, Shandong province is building a fruit and vegetable factory on the city's saline-alkali land.

Located in Tianjia village, Fuguo sub-district, the park spans a total area of about 333,333 square meters with a total investment of 120 million yuan ($18.83 million). It consists of a glass intelligent greenhouse, an intelligent and heat preservation greenhouse, 54 new-style solar greenhouses, and product sorting, packaging, storage and preservation equipment.

Relying on big data, the internet of things, and modern agricultural production technology, the park can operate the entire production process with technology.

The park adopts the operation mode of "investor + operator + family farm" and it has launched preferential policies to attract local experienced farmers to manage and operate the park, said Chang Qinrong, manager of the park.

"We provide seedlings, plants and other agricultural materials in a unified manner, and we also organize modern planting training courses for farmers and we are in charge of purchasing and marketing issues," said Chang, adding that farmers only need to pay for rent and farm expenses during harvest seasons.

The main plants in the park are winter dates, tomatoes and strawberries.

"Most of the land here is saline-alkali, which is more suitable for the varieties of tomatoes and strawberries we grow ourselves," Chang noted.

The park can create 110 new jobs, and produce 500 tons of fruits and vegetables with a total sales volume of 5 million yuan when it is fully put into operation, according to local officials.
