Shandong province will continue to cultivate its big data industry as an important driving force for the development of the digital economy in 2022, said officials from the Shandong Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology.

Efforts will be made to promote the agglomeration and development of the big data industry, and transform and empower traditional industries with cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, 5G networks and big data.

Official data showed that big data in Shandong province has achieved rapid growth. The annual revenue of big data businesses exceeded 100 billion yuan ($15.69 billion) last year.

As one of the 20 regional sub-centers that was planned and constructed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in the country, the National Industrial Internet Big Data Shandong Sub-center has started construction, which will serve nearly 10,000 enterprises and support the digital transformation and upgrading of the Shandong manufacturing industry.

The Shandong Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology has started the construction of a big data development and innovation platform system. At present, the province has cultivated 26 big data development and innovation laboratories, 67 big data industry innovation centers, 29 big data innovation service institutions, and 47 big data innovation talent bases.

In 2021, Shandong added 38 provincial digital economic parks, bringing the total number to 85.
