Zibo interior painting: A big world inside a small bottle

Wen Jing, an inheritor of Shandong inside-painting art, has been engaged in the technique for more than 30 years.
Shandong inside-painting art, also known as Lu inside-painting, is a technique used to paint the inside of a bottle. It originated more than 200 years ago in Zibo, Shandong province, which is known as China's capital of ceramics.
The art was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage item in 2014. Artisans used to paint the inside of a snuff bottle, a vase or a glass ball. The usual themes of these paintings are flowers, birds, and natural landscapes.

As a Zibo native, Wen has made great efforts to promote inside-painting art. "I have participated in the Zibo ceramics expo for many years. I hope to promote Shandong inside-painting through the expo and help more people learn about this Chinese traditional art," Wen said.
The 21st China (Zibo) International Ceramics Exposition, which is being held from Nov 29 to Dec 6, has attracted more than 200 ceramics enterprises, as well as more than 300 masters at the national and provincial levels showcasing a wide range of ceramic artworks.
