As OEM orders vary in form and formulation, the company needs to customize production according to customer orders, said Qin Hongjun, a senior manager of Seek Pet Products Co.

According to Qin, the company now produces more than 1,000 kinds of pet food, covering dry food, wet food, snacks, and freeze-dried food, and has an annual output of more than 300,000 tons, the highest in China. Its major products account for 15 percent of the domestic market share.

"Ten years ago, the company was just a workshop with an annual output value of 2 million yuan ($309,600). Relying on the livestock and poultry breeding resources in Yinan county, it has now developed into the largest pet food processing enterprise in China," said Qin.

There are 65 livestock and poultry slaughtering and processing enterprises in Yinan that process 700 million ducks, 230 million broilers and 4 million pigs annually for the purpose of making pet food.

Yinan county is located at the eastern foot of Yimeng Mountain. The output value of local food processing enterprises above designated size reached 20 billion yuan, accounting for 60 percent of the county's total output value of industrial enterprises above the scale.

Although the traditional food processing business in the county has been stable for many years, the pet food industry has paved a new way for the county to boost its livestock and poultry production, said local officials.

Yinan will intensify efforts to attract more pet product producers to the county to foster a complete industrial chain and develop the headquarters economy of the pet supplies industry.
