China Petrochemical Corp, or Sinopec Group, announced that its first gas storage tank in East China's Shandong province, Shengli oilfield Yong-21 gas storage tank, was put into operation and started trial gas injection on Friday.

The facility will further improve the natural gas supply in the region and step up the company's gas storage peak-regulating capacity to ensure the heating season supply.

With a designed capacity of 500 million cubic meters, the Shengli oilfield Yong-21 gas storage tank sees a daily gas supply and peak-regulating capacity of 1.98 million cubic meters that can meet the daily demand of five million households' gas consumption, it said.

The company has been stepping up gas storage facility construction in recent years to enhance its gas storage peak-regulating capacity. It plans to further accelerate gas storage construction in the oil fields in central, northwestern and northeastern parts of the country.
