Jinan, capital of East China's Shandong province will ramp up efforts to promote ecological protection of the Yellow River Basin to fuel the city's high-quality development.

During the two sessions, Yin Luqian, a deputy to the 13th National People's Congress and also director of the Standing Committee of the Jinan Municipal People's Congress, gave suggestions about Jinan's plan to become one of the most important cities in the Yellow River Basin and a regional powerhouse in Shandong.

The annual sessions of the National People's Congress and the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, also known as the two sessions, are currently underway in Beijing.

According to Yin, an overall plan for the ecological construction of urban water bodies will be implemented to create a water-saving model city.

Ecological protection of the Yellow River Basin will also be reinforced, accompanied by new policies and the building of sediment storage dams.

The city will speed up construction of an intelligent, grid-based surveillance system in the Yellow River Basin to establish an integrated regulatory system for the mountains, water, forest, farmland, lake and grass.

He noted that Jinan should strengthen efforts in replacing old growth drivers with new ones and accelerate the development of industrial clusters in next-generation information technology, biopharmaceuticals, quantum technology, new materials, and high-end equipment manufacturing.

Yin said that innovation should be leveraged to further promote the construction of scientific research institutions and the development of cutting-edge high-tech projects in the fields of bioscience and quantum technology. The city will step up efforts to develop infrastructure construction with 5G, smart computing centers and internet of things.

For foreign trade and opening up, Jinan will deepen cooperation in various fields with countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.
