A marine ranching platform equipped with a 5G communication base station was delivered to Changdao Island, Yantai, Shandong province, becoming first of its kind to use 5G technologies in China.
The platform, known as "Changyu 1", at a length of 25 meters and width of 25 meters, was developed by CIMC Raffles and is designed to be used as a comprehensive marine aquaculture station.
In addition to the standard functions of a marine ranching platform such as marine protection and fishing, the platform also functions in aquaculture.
With the help of 5G technology, it can conduct automatic aquaculture in deep sea areas which can relieve the environmental impact caused by traditional offshore aquaculture and also reduce aquaculture diseases to improve the quality and yield of aquatic products.
The platform is capable of harvesting 50,000 kilograms of bass within two years, a local official said.
