Two Shandong University professors elected as academicians

The Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering announced their newly-elected academicians on Nov 22, and two professors from Shandong University made the list.

Professor Chen Zijiang was elected academician of the Division of Life Sciences and Medical Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, while Professor Li Shucai was elected academician of the division of civil engineering, water conservancy, and construction of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Professor Chen is director of the Center for Reproductive Medicine and vice president of the Shandong Provincial Hospital. She is also vice dean of the School of Medicine of Shandong University.

Chen has extensive experience in diagnosing and treating gynecological endocrinology and infertility, as well as in reproductive genetics. She has also performed candidate gene screening and functional characterization for PCOS and POF. She has published more than 200 articles in journals such as Nat Genet, Am J Hum Genet, Hum Mol Genet, Fertil Steril, and Hum Reprod.

Professor Li is the vice president of Shandong University, dean of its Civil Engineering School, and director of its Geotechnical & Structural Engineering Research Center. He was also president of the Underground Engineering Association (UEA) affiliated with the Chinese Rock Mechanics and Engineering Society (CRMES).

Shandong University currently has eight faculty who are academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and nine who are academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
