Shandong rolls out plan to build high-quality cities

Shandong Provincial People's Government has rolled out a three-year action plan to improve the qualities of its 16 cities, according to local officials.

Improvements will be made in several areas -- including city appearances, transportation, environment, local characteristics and the satisfaction of residents.

Wang Yuzhi, director of the Shandong Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, said that the improvement of urban quality was divided into eight special campaigns to improve urban features, city environments, air quality, transportation, public services and other sectors.

In the area of road traffic construction and management, the province will roll out six measures – including optimizing the structure of road networks, strengthening the construction and management of parking facilities and boosting the development of public transport.

In terms of shaping urban characteristics and styles, Shandong will launch six measures. These will include accelerating urban design and renewal and strengthening the protection of quality historical buildings.

With regard to social cohesion and harmony, the province plans to roll out four measures, such as promoting more social behavior, carrying out voluntary services and providing more one-stop service centers.

Dust control, ameliorating the effect of outdoor barbecues, the implementation of clean heating projects and other measures will be promoted to improve air quality, officials said.
