Liu Jiayi, Party secretary of Shandong province, visited the Ministry of Science and Technology, Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), and Tsinghua University in Beijing from May 7-8 to strengthen exchanges and advance Shandong's development.

At a symposium with the Ministry of Science and Technology Liu expressed his heartfelt thanks to the ministry for its care and support for Shandong.

He hoped that the ministry will provide more support and assistance to the province in the construction of national laboratories and state key laboratories, major scientific and technological innovation projects as well as in construction of innovative cities.

Wang Zhigang, Minister of Science and Technology, said that Shandong is a powerhouse of scientific and technological innovation, which attaches great importance to the field's development and occupies an important national position.

Wang said the Ministry of Science and Technology will support Shandong's industrial development and scientific and technological innovation, as well as promote mutual cooperation.

During his visit to the CAE, Liu thanked the institution for its long-term support and disinterested assistance in the province's development.

Liu said that Shandong has entered a critical stage in high-quality growth and replacing old drivers with new ones.

He hoped that the CAE will continue to give full play to its advantages in technological innovation and talent aggregation to increase cooperation with Shandong-based institutions and enterprises, strengthen personnel exchanges, support the construction of Shandong's innovation platforms and promote development of academician workstations in the province.

Li Xiaohong, president of CAE, said that the academy is glad to see Shandong's unprecedented developmental achievements.

He said that the academy will focus on the development of Shandong's key areas, organize academicians and experts to conduct in-depth research so as to provide more scientific and technological support for Shandong's high-quality development and take mutual cooperation to a new level.

During his visit to Peking University on May 8, Liu visited the university's Academy of Arts & Design, School of Vehicle and Mobility and its history museum. 

During the meeting with the university's top officials, Liu hoped that the university will give full play to its strengths in talent cultivation and scientific research innovation to support Shandong's high-quality development, expand bilateral cooperation on strategic consultation on industrial development, transformation of scientific research results and strengthen teaching and research cooperation with Shandong-based universities and colleges.
