Yantai hosts AI Summit

Yantai, a coastal city in East China's Shandong province held the World AI (Artificial Intelligence) Summit on July 31, attracting around 400 AI and business experts, and scholars from home and abroad.

"AI technology has played an important role in promoting the economic development of various fields," Huang Guangbin, an expert from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore said at the summit. He has devoted himself to developing AI products and promoting their application, and helps to promote Yantai's industry upgrading.

The summit is sponsored by the Yantai Institute of Artificial Intelligence and co-cognized by Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the Big Data Industry Alliance of China and other related units. It focuses on the application of AI in various fields including robots, medicine, Internet of Things and intelligent sensors.

The summit also held a series of activities including a inaugurating ceremony for the Institute of Artificial Intelligence in Yantai University, expert keynote reports, and an investment promotion forum for the intelligent manufacturing sector.

China in recent years has made serious efforts in pushing forward AI research. According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China's AI industry output in 2017 was roughly $2.85 billion.

In recent times, Yantai city has also attached great importance to the development of intelligent equipment through technological innovation and industrial upgrading. In a sign of this, the city has launched a series of supporting policies to promote the development of related industries.
