The development of Linzi district – administered by Zibo city in East China's Shandong province – over the past 10 years was displayed at a news conference held on Sept 28.

In 2021, Linzi's GDP reached 85.99 billion yuan ($12.9 billion), and the general public budget revenue totaled 7.2 billion yuan. The industrial output value of enterprises above a designated size – those with annual main business revenue of 20 million yuan ($2.97 million) or more –measured 234.66 billion yuan.

The urban built-up area has grown to 47.8 square kilometers, and the urbanization rate has reached 68.9 percent, making it one of the top 100 new urbanization areas in China.

Linzi has also carried out 163 projects to develop four leading industrial chains of chemical clusters, five emerging industrial clusters and six traditional industrial clusters.

Thanks to its efforts in pollution control, the rate of excellent air was 38 percentage points higher than that in 2012.

Furthermore, Linzi has strived to explore local cultures such as the Qi culture and cuju. The remains of building foundations located outside the west gate of the ancient city of Qi – located in the modern Linzi district – were confirmed by experts as being the ruins of the famed Jixia Academy in March, after five years of research. The Jixia Academy is often considered the earliest university in China.
