Zibo city experiences 9.4% GDP growth in 2021

The gross domestic product or GDP of Zibo – a prefecture-level city in East China's Shandong province – totaled 420.06 billion yuan ($66.03 billion) in 2021, for year-on-year growth of 9.4 percent, local authorities said on Jan 28.

Officials told a news conference that growth rate ranked it second in the province.

Despite the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, the city's average annual GDP growth for the past two years reached 5.9 percent, they said.

In 2021, the added value of the city's primary industry reached 18.06 billion yuan, an increase of 7.3 percent on the previous year and an average increase of 5 percent over the previous two years.

The added value of the secondary industry stood at 207.31 billion yuan, an increase of 10.1 percent from that in 2020 and an average increase of 6.5 percent over the previous two years.

The added value of its tertiary industry was 194.7 billion yuan, an increase of 8.8 percent on 2020 and an average increase of 5.3 percent over the past two years.

Industries in the city saw stable growth and the added value of industries above a designated size rose 14.1 percent, ranking it second in the province. The added value of Zibo's four strong industries, which refer to the new materials, intelligent manufacturing, new medicines and electronics information industries, saw 48.9 percent combined growth.

In addition, the city's investment structure also improved. Fixed asset investment increased by 22.1 percent, ranking it first in Shandong.

The general public budget revenue amounted to 36.9 billion yuan, increasing 14.8 percent year-on-year.

Meanwhile, Zibo's exports and imports totaled 119.24 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 33.6 percent.

People's living standards also improved last year as the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents increased by 7.9 percent and 10.1 percent, respectively.
