The tourism sector in the city of Zibo - located in East China's Shandong province - reportedly turned in a great performance during the weeklong National Day holidays that took place on Oct 1-7.

The local government is said to have prioritized novel coronavirus controls and fire safety management work during the break. Over 98 steering groups - comprising 1,259 officials from districts and municipal bureaus - inspected 592 businesses and scenic areas. They took time to look at fire safety management, special devices and internal traffic conditions.

Meanwhile, a total of 200 cultural events were held in the city during the seven-day holiday. These featured a wide range of performances – including singing and modern dance events, band concerts, recitals, local dramas and painting and calligraphy exhibitions.

To boost the tourism industry further, the municipal culture and tourism bureau launched several new initiatives as well as events.

The Qi Tour Card - an annual travelling card - was issued on Sept 26 at the price of 99 yuan ($15.36) , so that locals can visit about 30 scenic areas throughout the year. Statistics showed that more than 10,000 of the new cards were sold and were used by Oct 7.

Furthermore, some 500,000 yuan in shopping coupons reportedly led to spending of more than two million yuan during the holiday.
