Zhoucun Ancient Commercial City arose as a commercial city of the handicraft industry during the economic transition in ancient times. In the period of Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties, it developed to be a major commercial town in northern China, known as "No 1 Village in the World". Its most famous special local product is Zhoucun Sesame Seed Cake, also known as "No 1 Sesame Seed Cake in the World".
Zhoucun is one of the places where the Silk Road began in ancient China. It has the good reputations of "Gold Zhoucun" "Dry Wharf", and the "Home of Silk". Dye House was engaged in the business of sizing-dye, which had become one of the most important industries in late Ming Dynasty. At the beginning, they sizing-dyed cotton cloth, and in late Qing Dynasty, Zhoucun had become a famous base of silk processing in China.
