Recent biodiversity surveys at Taishan Mountain have led to the recording of seven new insect species for Shandong province, further enriching the mountain's insect family.

Taishan Mountain, a valued natural and historical site in China, has been meticulously protected over the years. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), the area has focused on ecological civilization, consistently enhancing the environment and upholding conservation principles, paving a new path of green development.

By 2025, over 3,000 insect species have been documented at Taishan Mountain, including more than 900 newly recorded species (with five new to China and 92 new to Shandong province). Over 300 sets of unidentified micro-moth specimens have been collected, and the total number of moth species is expected to surpass 1,000.

Insects are a "barometer" of ecological health. With a forest coverage rate of 94.8 percent and vegetation coverage over 95 percent, Taishan Mountain offers an intact habitat for various insect populations.

Taishan Mountain's bird community is also flourishing. In 2025, the number of wild bird species recorded reached 376, a significant increase from the 148 species documented in 1995.

In conserving endemic species, Taishan Mountain has made significant progress. The Taishan mountain ash, a tree species unique to the mountain and once critically endangered, with only one remaining tree, has been successfully propagated, with over 2,000 saplings cultivated and reintroduced into the wild. Other rare plants, like the Taishan willow, have also been included in in-situ conservation and propagation efforts.

Currently, Taishan Mountain is home to 18,195 ancient and famous trees, including 1,892 that are over 300 years old. Among them, 23 trees are inscribed on the World Heritage List, revered as "green national treasures" and "living cultural relics".
