Tai'an welcomes 2026 with tourism boom, vibrant celebrations
The New Year holiday of 2026 began with a festive and energetic atmosphere in Tai'an, Shandong, with a variety of cultural and tourism activities delighting residents and visitors alike.
During the three-day holiday, the city's 20 monitored tourist sites welcomed a total of 375,400 visits to places including A-level scenic spots, new tourism projects, rural destinations, and red tourism sites. These sites generated a combined revenue of 9.06 million yuan ($1.29 million). A major highlight was Taishan Mountain, which attracted 57,800 hikers seeking the year's first sunrise.
To meet public demand, the city's cultural and tourism bureau launched 23 themed activities and preferential policies across four categories: New Year celebrations, winter sports, intangible cultural heritage, and seasonal getaways.
Standout events included immersive New Year's Eve parties at various attractions and a New Year music carnival at Taishan Mountain scenic area, which drew over 20,000 music fans for a blend of sound, technology, and natural scenery.
The holiday spirit extended to sports, with the national New Year climbing event in Tai'an attracting hiking fans nationwide. Over 20,000 locals joined the climb, supported by more than 100,000 online participants.
Various districts also showcased local charm. Activities ranged from calligraphers delivering Spring Festival couplets in Taishan district, to the opening of the trendy Taishan Mountain music town in Daiyue district, and themed winter events like ice-and-snow festivals in Xintai and Feicheng counties.
This comprehensive mix of offerings ensured a memorable and joyful start to 2026 for all in Tai'an.
