Established in June 1977, the Shandong Art Museum is an affiliated nonprofit cultural institution under the Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism.

Construction on a new venue for the museum started in January 2012 and it opened to the public in October 2013.

Located on the eastern part of Jingshi Road, the new pavilion covers an area of 20,700 square meters and has a total construction area of 52,000 square meters divided into five stories.
