Qingdao in Shandong province has eight qualified car manufacturers, with a total production capacity of over 1.3 million vehicles, and over 300 automotive industry enterprises above designated size.
In recent years, Qingdao has formed a complete industry value chain led by car manufactures such as FAW Jiefang Qingdao Automobile Co, SAIC-GM-Wuling Qingdao branch, and Chery Automobile Qingdao branch, while being supported by part manufacturers like Qingte Group.
Next, Qingdao will focus on six directions to promote the industry's development towards becoming high-end, intelligent, and green.
The eight automotive-related projects in the city's Jimo district that began recently account for nearly one-third of the projects in the district. In Laixi district, BAW, a Beijing-based automaker, launched a new brand "212" and introduced its first model to the market, along with a new brand plan. In Pingdu district, the construction of the 2.5 billion yuan ($353.38 million) automobile industrial park is working to create an automotive component industry cluster integrating research and development and production of automatic transmissions, new energy batteries, lightweight chassis, and automotive components.
The automotive industry is one of Qingdao's pillar industries and has secured a place in the national industrial landscape, progressing from less than 10 billion yuan in output a decade ago to a 100 billion-yuan level pillar industry today. With a focus on improving automotive manufacturer capabilities and breakthroughs in intelligent networking, Qingdao's automotive industry is accelerating its pace towards high-end, intelligent, and green development.
