On July 31 Beijing time, the women's rugby sevens event at the Paris Olympics came to a close. The Chinese team concluded their Olympic journey with their best performance ever, finishing in sixth place.

The head coach, Lu Zhuan, and two players, Su Qi and Wang Xiao, both from Qingdao, also were a crucial part of the team's success.

"I am honored to participate in the Olympics with such an outstanding group. Along the way, we faced strong opponents, and the players performed exceptionally well. Everyone wanted to achieve a better ranking to repay the country and everyone who helped and supported us along the way," said Lu.

In addition to head coach Lu, the two Qingdao players Wang and Su started their athletic training in track and field at the Qingdao Sports School in September 2012 before transitioning to rugby.

"I am honored to wear the national team jersey and stand on the Olympic stage. I am very happy to be a part of the Chinese women's rugby team and proud to represent China in the competition," said Su.
