Since Qingdao in Shandong province began making efforts to become a park city in 2022, 205 kilometers of coastal greenways have been built, along with 14.5 kilometers of urban greenways and 43.4 kilometers of mountain-surrounded greenways, according to official data.

"Here, you can breathe in fresh air and enjoy the beautiful coastal scenery. Exercising in such an outdoor setting is truly delightful," said athlete He Meiling after another night run along the coastal greenway in the Qianhai area.

In recent years, Qingdao has continuously improved its city-wide greenway system by connecting residential areas, parks, commercial districts, and other spaces through greenways. These interconnected pathways form a comprehensive green service system covering the entire city, making it more convenient for residents to enjoy the benefits of green infrastructure.

Thanks to the local government's efforts, the coastal greenway along the Houhai area has become a popular destination for city walks. The transformation of the once dilapidated embankments into coastal greenways, where one can now enjoy the view of the Jiaozhou Bay Bridge as the sun sets, has significantly increased the charm of the Houhai area.

The coastal greenway has enhanced the quality of public green spaces along its route by replacing pavement, adding markings for guidance, and increasing basic infrastructure such as stations and signposts. Pocket parks like Haichang Park, Haile Park, Haiyan Park, and Haiyu Park have also been constructed.

This year, Qingdao will leverage its mountains and seas to provide residents with a picturesque, green, and ecologically healthy urban environment.
