Licang boosts nighttime consumption

Licang district in Qingdao, Shandong province recently kicked off a nighttime cultural and tourism promotion event to bolster its nighttime economy.
The nighttime economy refers to business activities that take place between 6 pm and 6 am in the service sector. Business services include tertiary industries such as leisure, tourism, shopping, fitness, culture and catering.

Licang district will open late-night canteens in major business areas and convenience stores, bookstores and movie theaters in certain areas will tweak their service hours to drive the nighttime economy.
A series of nighttime performances will also be carried out in famous tourist attractions, business streets and night markets in the district.
"We aim to create a new benchmark for the nighttime economy and revitalize the market confidence by running such a promotional activity, and to provide a more affordable, convenient life experience for both the local residents and the tourists," said an official from the district government.
