A dazzling light show at Fushan Bay on June 12 in the Shinan district of Qingdao city – located in East China's Shandong province – brought passionate cheers from the spectators at the 2021 Qingdao International Football Fans Carnival, according to local media reports.

The event showed enthralling football matches on a big screen. Many said it not only created an ideal place for football fans in Qingdao, but also explored new possibilities for boosting Qingdao's night economy.

Statistics reportedly showed that the scale of China's night economy reached 30 trillion yuan ($4.65 trillion) by the end of 2020. A series of measures, including innovations in product supplies and extending business hours in Shinan, have been taken by businesses to stimulate nighttime consumer spending.

As the main driver for the development of after-dark commerce in Qingdao, Shinan boasts a vibrant bar street that is pulling in lots of people eager to enjoy the charms of the city from a different perspective when night falls.

By August last year, the city had seen the opening of 21 bar streets – home to 99 live bands and 101 bars, including the Olympic Sailing Center Lover Dam Bar and the Tailu Road 1907 Music Street Bar.
