Qingdao village cashes in on sweet potato vermicelli
Lijiawazi village in Qingdao West Coast New Area is renowned for its traditional handmade sweet potato vermicelli industry. The village has been producing traditional handmade sweet potato vermicelli for more than 100 years.
The production of sweet potato vermicelli in the village goes through 32 procedures, including selection, cleaning, grinding, filtering, fermentation and starching.
In 2010, the technology for making traditional sweet potato vermicelli was listed as an intangible cultural heritage item in the Qingdao West Coast New Area.
In recent years, the village has been making continuous efforts to promote its sweet potato vermicelli industry as it provides a boost to villagers' incomes.
