Prominent Peking Opera masters from Beijing and Tianjin will offer Qingdao audiences the chance to immerse themselves in the traditional art form through a series of performances over the weekend.
Peking Opera, known as "Jingju" in Chinese, is a traditional theater form that dates back to the 18th century. It combines vocal narrations with music, acrobatics, acting and martial arts.
Masterpieces such as A Red-maned Fiery Steed, The Warrior Women of Yang and an array of famous Peking Opera excerpts will be staged at the Qingdao Yong'an Grand Theater from Dec 4 to 6.
The shows will present various performing styles, lavish costumes, elaborate makeup and acrobatics to audiences.
Jointly hosted by the Qingdao municipal publicity department, the Qingdao bureau of culture and tourism and the Qingdao Performing Arts Group, the event aims to promote classic Peking Opera and help enrich the cultural life of locals.
