President's instruction highlights vital role of social work
President Xi Jinping has underlined the vital role of social work in China's stability and the well-being of its people, and called for efforts to promote the high-quality development of China's social work as the nation's social structure is undergoing profound changes.
Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks in a recent instruction on the country's social work. The instruction was read out at a central conference on social work held in Beijing on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Social work, which involves providing professional services in areas such as social welfare and employment aid to people in need, plays a fundamental role in addressing social issues and promoting social harmony and development.
Xi said that with the rapid development of emerging sectors and the massive increase in the number of people engaged in new types of employment, the country's social work must proactively respond to the new tasks of the changing landscape.
Last year, a national survey showed that about 84 million of the country's workers are engaged in new types of employment, such as ride-hailing drivers and food delivery agents.
Noting that the overall improvement of social work is the shared responsibility of the entire Party, Xi urged CPC committees at all levels to ensure that the Central Committee's decisions on social work are well implemented.
Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, attended the conference and delivered a speech.
Cai emphasized the importance of prioritizing Party building in emerging sectors and called for concerted efforts to expand the reach of Party organizations and the scope of their activities.
He also underscored the significance of uniting and serving the people and called for fostering the high-quality development of social work through reform and innovation.
