Bamboo, wooden and straw weaving products are among the traditional advantageous agricultural produces in Jining, East China's Shandong province.

The city has dozens of such handicrafts enterprises that specialize in producing and exporting straw and willow weaving products, as well as wood flooring to Japan, Europe and the Americas.

Despite their strong reputations in foreign markets, the majority of these businesses are small and medium-sized, with minimal profits.

To help them increase international market share and ensure stable presence, the Jining customs has taken a series of measures, including offering guidance to these enterprises on strictly controlling product inspection and quarantining raw materials, processing, storage and transportation, to minimize the risk of being returned or in violation of local regulations.

Customs also informed these companies about the latest laws, regulations, standards and quarantine requirements in their major export destinations.

In addition, customs has introduced online examinations and 24/7 registration clearance to improve efficiency.

"Since the sea shipping is unstable and expensive amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the customs officers always conduct timely examinations to help us export as soon as possible," said Liu Yan, a senior executive of a local foreign trade enterprise.

Statistics show that in 2021, Jining customs handled 5,115 batches of exported bamboo, wooden and straw products with a combined value of 833 million yuan ($131.36 million). The figures increased 21.3 percent and 56.2 percent year-on-year, respectively.
