Jining dishes win big in Shandong cuisine competition

Twelve dishes made by Jining chefs won awards at the recently concluded "New Era, New Shandong Cuisine" 2021 Shandong Cuisine Innovation Competition, local media outlets reported.

Among them, one was rated as one of the top 10 innovative dishes, and three were rated among the 20 most popular novel Shandong cuisines, which put Jining in the second place in the eastern province.

The competition started on Sept 16, 2021 and is co-held by the Shandong Provincial Publicity Department, the Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, the Shandong Base Station of China Media Group, and the Shandong Tourist Hotels Association.

In addition to participants from 136 districts and counties in 16 cities in Shandong province, the competition also attracted the attention and participation of gourmets from more than 40 countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States, Russia, and France.

According to the organizers, 1,099 dishes were submitted during the competition. As of Dec 31, 2021 the total number of votes for the participating dishes reached 127 million.

A promotional event for Shandong cuisine was also held in the UK's capital city London in late November 2021 to allow more people to learn about the province's delicacies.
