The overall development plan (2020-35) for the Jiuxian Mountain scenic area in Qufu, a county-level city in Jining, was approved by the Shandong Provincial People's Government on Jan 8.

Featuring land formations from the Cambrian Period and a historic temple cluster, the scenic area is a provincial-level tourist attraction that offers sightseeing, rural life experiences, folk culture experiences and patriotism education.

It spans a total area of 10.88 square kilometers and includes the Jiushan Mountain Taoism culture zone, the Ludou Temple Buddhism culture zone, the Jiuxian Tianchi tourist resort, the Fenghuang Mountain hiking and expedition zone, and the Dashiyu forest experience zone.

According to the plan, the area will strengthen its protection of natural and cultural resources by classifying a 4.8-sq km first-level reserve, a 4.15-sq km second-level reserve, and a 1.93-sq km third-level reserve.

Top priority will be given to protecting the natural resources in Jiushan Mountain, Fenghuang Mountain and Jiuxian Tianchi as well as the cultural relics in Jiuxian Mountain.

All the construction activities in the area will be strictly controlled and should not impact the original status of surrounding buildings, water bodies, plants, wild animals and landforms.
