The Confucius Museum, which is located in Jining, East China's Shandong province, has received more than 1 million visits as of June 23, since its trial operation started on May 10, 2019.
During this year's five-day May Day holiday, over 49,000 tourists made trips to the museum, up 587.2 percent year-on-year. On May 2 alone, a total of 11,933 visits were made, the largest number of visitors in a day that the museum has seen.
The Confucius Museum has been dedicated to preserving and promoting Confucian culture, which represents a significant part of traditional Chinese culture. Boasting a rich collection of 700,000 historical relics, the museum is a window into Confucianism, as well as its impacts on ancient and contemporary Chinese society.
A number of temporary exhibitions that feature local traditions, currencies used along the ancient Silk Road, calligraphy works, and paintings have also been held at the museum.
In addition, the Confucius Museum gives lectures to young students, as well as organizes various activities in communities and villages so that more people can learn about traditional Chinese culture.
The museum has been recognized as a national first-class museum. Its exhibitions have been recommended by China's National Culture Heritage Administration.
