Jining in East China's Shandong province is currently decorating its streets and parks with lights and lanterns for the upcoming Spring Festival, which begins on Feb 12 this year.

The decoration project, which is scheduled to be finished by Feb 4, involves 18 streets and eight parks in downtown Jining, as well as several parts of the districts administered by the city, such as Taibai Lake New Area and Jining Economic and Technological Development Zone, according to the Jining bureau of urban management.

A number of places in the city, including Jining People's Park, Baihua Park, and the Gongqingtuan Road, have already been adorned with hundreds of colorful lamps and red lanterns.

The project covers a wider area than before, as well as uses energy-saving and environmentally friendly materials, said Li Guangcun, an official at the city's urban management bureau. The design and layout of decorations are also meant to fit with surrounding roads and buildings, added Li.
