An English-language global communication platform for Jining, East China's Shandong province was launched on Dec 31.

Consisting of the Jining English-language website and the "Jining of China" Facebook page, the platform aims to increase the historic city's international profile, as well as promote its image and global influence.

Dong Bo, head of the publicity department of the CPC Jining municipal committee, hoped that the platform will serve as an effective channel for promoting Jining, the hometown of Confucius and Mencius, and be a friendly bridge to connect the city with the rest of the world. 

"Jining is a historic city with important links to Chinese culture," said Wang Zhenghua, deputy editor-in-chief of chinadaily.com.cn, at the ceremony.

"The platform will create a new space for the development of Jining's international communication, and continuously improve its popularity, reputation and attractiveness," he added.

The Jining global communication platform was jointly created by Jining municipal publicity department and the China Daily website.
