Xinhu town, located in Hekou district of Dongying, Shandong province, is making big strides towards an end-to-end industrial value chain for shrimp.
This year, the town aims to produce over 40 billion high-quality shrimp seedlings and 26,000 metric tons of market-ready shrimp, with an annual output exceeding 900 million yuan ($124.09 million).

The town is enhancing shrimp production through advanced scientific technology. Many local shrimp companies have collaborated with research institutes to breed superior varieties and disease prevention.
Additionally, Xinhu town is focused on reducing environmental impact of its shrimp cultivation. By promoting the use of recycled water for shrimp farming, the town is improving both cultivation efficiency and the quality of the shrimp, driving the industry towards a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly future.
The town's shrimp industry has historically focused on live shrimp, whose prices are susceptible to seasonal fluctuations and market variability. To mitigate these risks and add value to its shrimp products, Xinhu town is capitalizing on the growing demand for ready-made dishes. The town plans to develop storage facilities and establish production lines for sorting, processing, and packaging shrimp, along with supporting infrastructure such as a quality inspection center, a digital management platform, and wastewater treatment systems.

Furthermore, Xinhu is building its local specialty brand by integrating with tourism, festivals, and catering. The town has launched a premium shrimp brand aimed at boosting the fisheries sector, improving industry efficiency, and increasing farmers' incomes.
With a vision to build a comprehensive shrimp industry value chain that spans breeding, processing, logistics, and sales, Xinhu town is poised to drive high-quality growth in the sector.
