A second bird-watching event, will kick off on Nov 12 in Dongying, located in East China's Shandong province.
The expansive wetlands at the mouth of the Yellow River have become a haven for rare bird species. Every year, millions of birds migrate and winter here, earning it the well-deserved title of the "International Airport for Birds".
The bird-watching event will run from November 2024 to January 2025. A series of events will focus on migratory birds, in order to establish the Yellow River Estuary as a unique international bird-watching destination while contributing to global biodiversity conservation.
The event features three special activities:
The first one is an international bird-watching competition, which will feature 120 people on teams from the UK, Germany, and 28 domestic teams from places such as Beijing, Shanghai, Xinjiang, Qinghai, Heilongjiang, Hubei, and Hong Kong. This event aims to create a more inclusive, engaging, and impactful bird-watching experience.
The second event is a bird-watching photography competition, which will run from the opening ceremony until Aug 31, 2025. Submissions will focus on rare and endangered bird species, as well as wetland ecosystems. What's more, a special exhibition will also be held, which will display the 100 top-winning works.
The third one involves international exchange activities, including global discussions on migratory birds and protecting their habitats. Additionally, parallel events will cover topics such as protecting, restoring, and learning about wetland ecosystems as well as protecting key species and their habitats in the Yellow River Delta. These exchanges will share advanced techniques and professional insights in migratory bird protection and wetland conservation.
In addition, this year will feature public events aimed at teaching locals bird-watching techniques and wildlife conservation knowledge, fostering a shared commitment to bird protection.
