Along Dongying's 463-kilometer coastline in East China's Shandong province, where the Yellow River meets the Bohai Sea, marine industries like fishing, seafood processing, and offshore oil and gas are flourishing.

Guided by its resource advantages, Dongying has built up strategic marine industries and strengthened its marine economy. With aquaculture covering 110,000 hectares, the city's aquatic output reached 547,500 tons in 2023, and January to September alone saw 448,300 tons—up 4.75 percent year-on-year.

Dongying is also leading in renewable energy, which now exceeds as the largest energy source in the city. Installed renewable capacity stands at 6.9 million kilowatts, growing 19.6 percent year-on-year, and now supports all new energy consumption.

The city is also transforming Dongying Port into a deep-water hub that will turn this once small bulk cargo terminal into a global connector. In 2023, total cargo throughput exceeded 72 million tons, among the fastest growth rates in China.

Dongying is committed to its blue ecological barrier, with August's near-shore water quality reaching an excellent area of 89.9 percent, a 3.3 percentage point increase from last year.

Harnessing its marine strengths and industrial areas, Dongying is creating a "blue engine" that will drive growth through shoring up its modern marine economy as well as building a deep-water port and a river-sea intermodal hub.
