Huge numbers of migratory birds have arrived at the wetlands of the Yellow River Delta National Nature Reserve in Dongying city – located in East China's Shandong province – presenting a stunning spectacle as they soar through the skies and forage for food.
As the migration season unfolds, the reserve has become a hub for various migratory species, with thousands of birds taking flight in a breathtaking display.
Situated along the East Asia-Australasia Flyway, the Yellow River Delta Nature Reserve is an essential stopover, wintering habitat and breeding ground for the birds.
In recent years, sustained ecological restoration efforts have significantly enhanced the biodiversity of the reserve.
The number of bird species has risen from 187 at its establishment to 373 today. Each year, millions of birds migrate, winter and breed in the area, earning it the title of the "International Airport for Birds".
