The 2024 Roundtable of Wetland City Mayors was held in Dongying, in East China's Shandong province on Oct 14-17 – elevating its reputation in international wetlands conservation and impacting on its economic and social development.
Dongying is an enchanting city, with its wetlands covering 4,567 square kilometers – representing about a quarter of the entire province. The 1,530 sq km region of the Yellow River Delta National Nature Reserve is in fact said to constitute the most complete and youngest wetlands ecosystem in China's warm temperate zone.
Dongying has long prioritized its wetlands city development – focusing on ecological protection and restoration, strengthening conservation management and enhancing ecosystem functions.
While being globally recognized as a Wetland of International Importance, Dongying's influence continues to grow – showcasing what's been called an open, vibrant and ecologically livable urban environment.
