Dongying, one of the world's first "International Wetland Cities", is hosting the 2024 Roundtable of Wetland City Mayors from Oct 15 to 17.
The event will bring together 220 leaders, experts, scholars, and representatives from institutions across seven countries, including China, Japan, South Korea, Hungary, France, Rwanda, and Morocco. Attendees will discuss key topics related to wetland protection and urban sustainability.
The conference offers a unique opportunity to experience the cultural and natural beauty of Dongying, known for its wetlands at the mouth of the Yellow River.
In recent years, Dongying has undertaken various wetland restoration projects aimed at enhancing protection and biodiversity. The city has developed a distinctive wetland restoration model and strengthened the protection of habitats for endangered birds, with the Yellow River Delta's migratory bird habitat recently designated as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site.
Moreover, Dongying has effectively integrated wetlands with urban spaces, promoting ecological protection, developing wetland-themed districts, and fostering a vibrant and livable urban environment.
