The Dongying Economic and Technological Development Zone – located in Dongying city in East China's Shandong province – has introduced regular inspections of the region with the help of aerial drones.

In recent days, illegal dumping of waste in the Shengli sub-district in the zone was discovered by an inspector utilizing the high-altitude reconnaissance function of the drones.

He promptly sent the video footage, time of the dumping and the longitude and latitude coordinates of the vehicle to the Shengli sub-district management for them to handle it.

This was just one vivid example of low-altitude economic applications currently being deployed by the zone.

In recent years, with the rapid growth of the low-altitude economy, it's taken the initiative to move into the area of aerial surveillance.

In particular, it's leveraging the opportunities presented by Dongying being designated as one of the first civil unmanned aerial vehicle test bases by the Civil Aviation Administration of China.

As a result, the zone is planning to establish an innovative demonstration base for low-altitude economic scenarios within its jurisdiction.

Moreover, it’s creating specialized flight routes and utilizing Shengli sub-district's layout to implement "low-altitude+" urban governance applications scenarios.

"Thanks to the integration of drones, areas that were once impossible or difficult for manual inspections can now be effortlessly surveyed through their use," said Wang Zihao, who is in charge of the comprehensive enforcement of the sub-dstrict.

To date, the zone has successfully integrated drone patrols with manual inspections to oversee a range of enforcement tasks – including monitoring river water quality, unauthorized construction, waste disposals, straw burning violations and illicit activities.

This combined approach is said to have proven highly effective, introducing a new and efficient management strategy for urban governance in the zone.
