An exchange event for Chinese-American teenagers kicked off in Dongyingyuan Expo Garden in East China's Shandong province, on June 20. Over the following 10 days, 16 Chinese-American students from places such as Midland, Texas are going to gain a deep understanding to the ecological and cultural charm of Dongying's Yellow River Delta.
At the opening ceremony, both Chinese and American students put on Chinese-style performances, winning applause from the audience.

To organize a successful exchange event, Dongying orchestrated a series of activities including cultural experience and outdoor development, in order to make sure the students are able to enjoy themselves while still learning.

"I hope both the Chinese and American teenagers can use this opportunity to befriend each other, thus gaining a deeper understanding of Dongying and China," said Li Huifeng, director of the city's bureau of culture and tourism.
Cai Xueling, president of the Chinese American Youth Association, said the event gives the Chinese-American teenagers the chance to fully experience the charm of Dongying's nature and culture. She also hopes they will help promote the exchange between the two countries.
The event is expected to lead to more cooperation between Dongying and the Chinese American Youth Association. Through various activities including interschool exchanges, short-term visits and summer schools, the two parties will seek closer cooperation.
